Cosyfeet Swanage

Swanage Disabled Club is the proud winner of this year’s Cosyfeet Community Award. The charity has won £500 to enable it to rent a beach hut on the sea front for a fortnight next summer, coinciding with the Swanage Carnival and Regatta.

The club has 30 members, assisted by over 20 volunteers. The majority of members are elderly and infirm, and would normally be housebound and isolated without the assistance of club volunteers.

Two specially adapted club vehicles, staffed by trained volunteer drivers and escorts, are used to provide transport to regular arts and crafts sessions and social gatherings, as well as monthly outings. Club events provide members with enjoyable and purposeful activities, as well as a friendship group for company and moral support.

“Watching the Carnival from a beach hut is a highlight of the year for many of our members,” says Club Secretary Daphne Saville. “It’s a brilliant local event; we try to fund the hire of a hut every year that we can. During the week following the carnival, the hut provides a chance for club members to simply enjoy a cup of tea by the sea.”

Cosyfeet makes extra roomy footwear for people with swollen feet and has an active policy of giving back to the communities it serves. Launched in 2014, the Cosyfeet Community Award offers a one-off donation of £500 to registered charities or not-for-profit organisations working on local projects that support and enrich the lives of older people.
