Margaret and me Exeter

Another hectic week at Oapschat Towers. I had a day with a difference on Wednesday. Instead of sitting at my desk typing away, with an ever intermittent Internet and many frustrations left, right and centre, I journeyed on a lot of trains!!

Derek and I found a rather good deal with our Talk Together card. £63.00 return for two people to Exeter. We usually drive down, but thought we would have a change. I am not that fond of public transport on the whole, but it all went smoothly.

We left by the 9.33am to Newport which was only 15 minutes late and arrived in Newport just over 50 minutes later.

A short wait saw us on a 125 train to Bristol Parkway for twenty minutes of high speed in an air conditioned fairly new train.

The final train was another 125, not such a nice experience as it smelt of chemicals and was not very clean. Seasoned travellers will know which train company I am describing! At 1pm we pulled into Exeter St Davids and the sunshine was warm and inviting.

Matt Exeter

Across the road we met my sister, Margaret James and my youngest son, Matt for lunch in a restaurant and sat in a bright airy conservatory.

Afterwards, a leisurely walk along the quayside for an hour was very pleasant and a good way to catch up with news.

It was so warm that we sat outside and had a pot of tea each and some cake. The men had beers which they thoroughly enjoyed. Swans flew and swam in the River Exe, cygnets staying close to their mothers.

All too soon it was 4.30 and the afternoon sun started to diminish. Time for window shopping in Exeter City Centre and a walk by the cathedral. Another pot of tea and all too soon it was time to go back to the station.

The return journey was on three rather dated rickety trains, but they hurtled along and hardly any passengers were on board, so plenty of space and free tables.

Tired and a bit weary we arrived home at 11.30pm. Would I do this journey again? Yes definitely. And we shall in about a month. No motorways, no traffic jams, no toll charges, and no harassed drivers!!

Have a good week Oapschatters, see you next Saturday!
